Extra Help is a Medicare program to help people with limited income and resources pay Medicare prescription drug costs, like premiums, deductibles and coinsurance. You may qualify for Extra Help (also called the low-income subsidy [LIS]) if your yearly income and resources are below these limits in 2014:
Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that helps pay medical costs if you have limited income and resources and meet other requirements. Some people qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid and are called “dual eligibles.” Medicaid offers some benefits not normally covered by Medicare, such as nursing home care.
Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a Medicare and Medicaid program offered in many states that allows people who otherwise need a nursing home-level of care to remain in the community. To qualify for PACE, you must meet these conditions:
- You must be age 55 or older.
- You must live in the service area of a PACE organization.
PACE provides coverage for prescription drugs, doctor visits, transportation, home care, hospital visits and nursing home care, when necessary.
